A young father in distress shoots himself inside a church in Ohio, and is planning to rededicate life to God

A young father suffering from mental distress and his family say he was also trying to rededicate his life to God shot himself inside a church in Ohio where he went to get help on Monday night.

“He tried to commit suicide,” Jennifer Leanne Prewitt, 25-year-old father of Vincent Fellowes, of Selena, told the Christian Post on Wednesday.

Representatives from the Dark County Sheriff’s Office told WHIOTV7 that Fellowes went to speak with Reverend Tim Paul of Grenville Baptist Church on Monday evening, but things took a tragic turn as Fellowes spoke with the pastor.

“He came to talk to me, and the more we talked, the more I realized where the conversation was going, and it wasn’t a good thing,” Paul said in the report.

Police said Fellowes got up during his conversation with Paul and took an AR-15 from his car in the parking lot, prompting Paul to rush the members who were inside the church in order to study the Bible to safety.

“I was really trying to call the police at that point, I was here on the stairs here, but when I saw that, I went back inside and got all the people here in the basement to vaccinate themselves and all that – at the same time he talked to the police and tried to work with him,” Paul explained In the report.

Fellowes entered inside the chapel’s front entrance while the weapon was pointed at himself and demanded that anyone be removed from the church, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Crisis negotiators and the Dark County Police Office Special Response Team arrived at the church at around 6:15 pm. He tried to persuade Fellowes to surrender for about three hours before shooting himself, according to police.

Greenville Baptist Church remained closed Wednesday and officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the CP.

While not sure what triggered her son’s suicidal behavior, Prewitt explained to CP that he had a car accident on February 16 after celebrating at a party for his one-year-old daughter.

“On the 16th of his daughter’s party, he had a car accident. He had a concussion. He was taken to… in the hospital where they treated him for a concussion and gave him some medicine. He did not work that night because he was clearly in pain. She said,“ He was in pain. He broke his nose and his things. ”

Prewitt said Fellowes returned to work at Aydin Healthcare in Greenville, where she also works, on Sunday night and her colleagues noticed that he was acting “weird”.

“He was acting very strange and different and the nurse sent him to a hospital in Greenville and the doctor there was very upset because the medication they gave him was not for a concussion and the pain medication he gave was having an allergic reaction to him. He – she. This is what was making him out,” Prewitt said. The game. ”So he came home that morning (Monday) and that afternoon what he did at church. I don’t know if it had anything to do with medication, concussion, and personal problems he was suffering from; I don’t have a clue, yet. ”

A change.org petition describing Fellowes as “cheerful, loving and sweet” said he was suffering from depression and in need of treatment, not jail, for his actions. He is currently in critical condition in Dayton Hospital, and MPs accused him of committing an aggravated robbery for assaulting the Church with a deadly weapon. The case is still under investigation and Fellowes could face additional charges.

“Vincent was struggling. He became very depressed, and had to split the time with his one-year-old daughter, whose whole world is undeniable. He tried to get help, tried to sell his gun, and looked for a healer. But it didn’t work. (Public evidence on his page) (Facebook) On February 22, 2021, he went to his church with his rifle in hand, crying and forgiving, and trying to commit suicide. Anyone who knew Vincent knew he would never harm anyone. He was just a threat to himself. He was so depressed, ”petition organizer Brittany Shabub wrote.

Prewitt, who has four children, is praying that her youngest son does not end up in prison. Just two years ago, her oldest son killed himself in Dark County Jail.

“My oldest son killed himself in Dark County Jail two years ago. So this is very tragic for our family, especially in that prison where his brother committed suicide. What would he do for his mental state?” The astonished mother asked.

“I think putting him in jail and giving him a felony, he is someone with CNA, wants to go to nursing school, I don’t think that will help him. And I think that will make it worse because he needs some internal therapy.”

She explained that she was not sure if he was alive or dead for two hours after her son was airlifted to the hospital.

“He had a breathing tube. They were asking him about DNR. He put up a paper that he wanted to be a DNR. Why would you ask someone that question who tried to kill himself? He is not in his right state of mind to make that decision.”

“This is a kid who just tried to commit suicide and I think he supposedly put a sheet of paper that he didn’t want anyone to know he was there. He didn’t want anyone to know about his situation, so we can’t,” Prewitt said, he even called the hospital because he’s not on the list and didn’t We can get any information about his condition. ”I want to fight. I could not save my oldest son, but I will do everything in my power to save my son. ”

Prewitt publicly apologized to Pastor Paul for what her son did in church and spoke to him as well.

“I spoke to him (the pastor) yesterday and it was a wonderful conversation. He said that I, son, have no reason to apologize. Vincent was never in danger to them; Prewitt said,“ He was just in pain and wanted to be there to do it (end his life). ”

She indicated that her son had been attending church for a while, but he stopped after moving to another town. She said that before the accident, he was preparing to rededicate his life to God.

“He went there for a long time and stopped because he moved to another city, then that week he decided to take his one-year-old daughter to meet everyone there and his whole plan was to start going there and she explained, ‘Go back with God and get this support.’

The family is seeking to raise money for the GoFundMe campaign to obtain legal and medical help for the ailing father.
